Discover Paleochora

Beaches, hiking trails, historical sites and unique experiences in southwest Crete, starting with Evriali Comfort Living.

Built on a small peninsula, Paleochora stretches between two different coasts and combines the mountain with the Libyan Sea. Evriali Comfort Living is located in the city center, a short walk from the sandy beach of Pachia Ammos and Halikia beach, offering an ideal starting point to explore the area.

Two beaches, two different experiences

On the western side of Paleochora is the long sandy beach of Pachia Ammos, while on the eastern side Halikia beach offers a different experience with pebbles and clear waters. Thanks to the location of the city on the peninsula, when the wind is stronger on one side, you can often choose the other for your swim.

Walk in Paleochora

Wander the narrow streets of the town, enjoy a walk along the sea and discover the shops, cafes and taverns of the area. The small scale of Paleochora allows you to get to know the center and its two coastal sides without needing a car.

Gialiskari and Anydra gorge

About 4 kilometers east of Paleochora is Gialiskari, also known as Anydron beach. The beaches are formed around a small peninsula and feature pebbles and clear, deep water, suitable for swimming and snorkeling. Gialiskari is located at the exit of the Anydra gorge and can be combined with hiking in the area.

Hiking on the European path E4

For those who love hiking, the route from Paleochora to Lissos and Sougia is part of the European path E4. The route follows the coastline, passes through Gialiskari and reaches the archaeological site of Lissos before continuing to Sougia. This is a long walk of about 14.5 km, so you need an early departure, suitable shoes and plenty of water.

Selino Castle

On the hill of Paleochora are the ruins of the Venetian Castle of Selinos, built in the 13th century to control and protect the area. The visit is easy, as it is located within the settlement, and is particularly worth it for the view towards the Libyan Sea and both sides of Paleochora.

Azogyres

Azogyres is located about 8–9 kilometers from Paleochora and is a quiet village with intense natural and religious interest. In the area one can visit the Monastery of the Holy Fathers, the cave of the Holy Fathers and places connected with the local tradition, combining a short excursion to the mountain with the authentic atmosphere of the hinterland

Grammeno Beach

About 5 kilometers west of Paleochora lies Grammeno, a beautiful seaside area with beaches around a small peninsula. Access is easy by following the road from Pachia Ammos to the west, while the area is ideal for relaxing swimming, walking and more peaceful moments by the sea.

Krios Beach

Krios is located about 10 kilometers west of Paleochora and is one of the well-known beaches of the area. You can reach it by road following the route to Kountoura or, in the summer season, by bus from the center of Paleochora. The beach is easily combined with an excursion to the western coastline and is a good choice for those who want to get to know more places beyond the city.
